It's unconfirmed, but this could be the first Pokémon game with real-time battle gameplay.
Open-world gameplay is one of the most successful and popular designs in modern games, keeping many games relevant long after their release dates, if done well. Games like Skyrim, GTA 5, The Witcher 3, and Breath of the Wild continue to be played, streamed, and updated, either by developers or by community modders. With Pokémon being the highest-grossing media franchise ever, Pokemon Legends: Arceus will likely only add to the series' achievements.

The ability to observe Pokémon wandering around the environment could also create a unique experience in catching them. It's hard to say whether or not players will still have to battle Pokémon in order to catch them or if there is a Safari Zone-like mechanic that allows for different tactics, but it's something to look forward to.
There are many new things coming in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and all of them look to be improvements on the franchise's core gameplay. It's not a withdrawal from the norm but rather an evolution of what fans have come to know and love. Game Freak is pushing the envelope with this title, but it's a creative and fresh take for the series.
