Pokemon Go: Best Rayquaza Raid Counters (Weather Week)

Rayquaza will make a reappearance during Weather Week in Pokemon Go. This guide will show players the best Rayquaza Raid Counters to bring it down. Pokemon Go occasionally brings back older Pokemon to return back to the raid battle rotation. It's impossible to count the number of times Pokemon like Mewtwo have returned in the raid battles. Since most Legendary Pokemon can only be claimed by capturing them through raids, it is likely that many might have missed the chance to capture their own Rayquaza. Not only that but for those Shiny Hunters out there who want that beautiful black Rayquaza now is the best chance to get on it. This guide will show players how they can counter it during a raid battle.

For starters, Rayquaza will only be available from Saturday, March 27th at 10 am to Sunday, March 28th at 8 pm. This leaves players with less than 2 days to try and capture this Pokemon. Players who are able to defeat and capture it will be rewarded with a Rayquaza that knows Hurricane. It's fitting since this Pokemon lives amongst the clouds and feeds on the atmosphere that it would appear during Weather Week. Here are the best possible counters for taking down Rayquaza in Pokemon Go.

Rayquaza is a Flying/Dragon-type Pokemon, meaning that it has a massive weakness to Ice-type moves. Make sure to bring along Pokemon with Ice-type moves for this battle. Here are some solid suggestions to make the battle go by easily.

  • Mamoswine: Powder Snow and Avalanche
  • Mega Abomasnow: Powder Snow and Weather Ball
  • Glaceon: Frost Breath and Avalanche
  • Galarian Darmanitan: Ice Fang and Avalanche
  • Jynx: Frost Breath and Avalanche
  • Weavile: Ice Shard and Avalanche

Although, regardless of the trainer's level, they should wait until they have at least 5 other players in the lobby before starting the battle. Since this is a 5-star raid, it will be challenging to bring it down with anything less. The best thing to do would be to leave before the game starts and rejoin and hope that someone else will join. Usually, after a few minutes, another group of players will come together to bring it down.

Once the player defeats it and reaches the capture phase, make sure to use a Golden Razz Berry or normal Razz Berry before every throw. This makes is more likely to get caught. Also, wait until it finishes its attack animation before throwing the ball. Doing all of this should reward the player with their own Rayquaza.
