Jeffrey Dean Morgan teases beginning work on The Walking Dead's final season. The zombie thriller is returning at the end of February for six bonus season 10 episodes. In addition, the Walking Dead movie with Rick Grimes at the center looks to begin filming this spring.
Distribute a poll on viewers' favorite Walking Dead character, and chances are Negan will come out on top. The former Saviors leader debuted at the end of season 6 and has remained a major character since. He has the unique honor of being the only main antagonist to be redeemed and join the group of survivors. In his most recent appearance, he played a major part in ending the war against the Whisperers. Negan will appear in at least two of the six bonus episodes coming up. The first will have him and Maggie together for the first time since their emotional encounter in season 9. However, probably just as interesting will be the final episode of the batch, "Here's Negan." For the first time, viewers will see Negan during a time before there were Saviors and a baseball bat. His wife will also be a major character, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan's own spouse. It's not yet known what Negan's role will be in the show beyond these episodes.
Over on his Instagram, Jeffrey Dean Morgan teases starting work on The Walking Dead season 11. It appears he's prepping by reading the final scripts of the show. Also, the actor shows off the script binder decorated by his son. Check it out below.
Interestingly, the synopsis for "Here's Negan" sounds like it could hint at the character's exit from the program. Of course, Negan coming to "a conclusion about his future" doesn't necessarily mean leaving the show. Plus, showunner Angela Kang already teased a dynamic for Negan and Maggie in season 11, so it doesn't look like Negan is going anywhere.
The big question is if Negan will remain with the characters throughout season 11. It seems likely he will be with the group, at least at the start. It would probably be counterproductive if he left right away, given he told Lydia he was still here "for now." Of course, eventually leaving the group could open the door for a potential Negan Lives adaption, something many fans would likely enjoy. There's certainly plenty of mystery surrounding The Walking Dead's final season. Before that, however, there will be those character-centric bonus season 10 episodes beginning in February to forward to.
