Harry Potter: The 10 Saddest Things About Harry | ScreenRant

The boy who lived. Harry Potter may have held a unique position among his friends, even in his whole school, but that doesn't mean his life was easy. Being famous from the time he was a baby, yet growing up with relatives who hated him - Harry's childhood was far from idyllic. And when he finally discovered his true heritage as a wizard when he celebrated his 11th birthday, Harry had no idea his real problems were just about to start.

All in all, Harry Potter didn't have it easy in the series. And even though he won in the end, there are still plenty of sad things about Harry's life or Harry himself.

10 He Watched Sirius Die

Harry has lost a large number of people in his life... but he didn't always have to watch them die. That wasn't the case with his godfather Sirius Black.

Harry watched Sirius fall into the veil in the Ministry of Magic but he was helpless, and he couldn't save Sirius. And even though it wasn't confirmed what the veil does to people, it's safe to assume Sirius is gone for good.

9 And He Was Responsible For It

Another terrible thing about Sirius' death is that Harry was partially responsible for it. Harry was the one who let his dreams and visions trick him. He was convinced his enemies had Sirius and were about to kill him.

Harry went to the Department of Mysteries to save Sirius and he didn't bother to check if Sirius wasn't at home. If he did, Sirius might have stayed alive.

8 He Lost Many Other People

Harry didn't have that many close friends or people who would care about him. And of those he had, he lost more than a fair share.

Besides Sirius, there's also the case of his mentor Dumbledore who, once he realized he was dying, planned his own death and didn't tell Harry anything. Harry also lost Remus Lupin, a close friend of his father James who died during the Battle at Hogwarts. And with the likes of Dobby or even his owl Hedwig, the list goes on.

7 He Had An Awful Childhood

Every Harry Potter fan will no doubt know that growing up with his uncle, aunt and cousin must have been hard for Harry. Neither of his three closest relatives liked Harry very much, in fact, they barely even tolerated him.

As a result of their negligence, Harry was small for his age and not fed well enough. Even though he eventually reconciled with his cousin, the first 11 bad years will never disappear.

6 His Aunt Marge Tormented Him Even More

Vernon, Petunia, and Dudley weren't the only close relatives who made Harry's life miserable. There was also his aunt Marge, Vernon's older sister. When she came to visit her brother, it soon became obvious Marge was determined to make Harry as miserable as possible.

Harry was accustomed to insults by this point but, Marge crossed the line when she insulted Harry's parents - and as a result, Harry blew her up, literally.

5 Ron Left Him... More Than Once

Harry and Ron were presumably best friends... but they didn't always treat each other that way. Ron was jealous of Harry, and he abandoned him on more than one occasion.

In their fourth year, Ron believed Harry put his name in the Goblet of Fire without telling him and stopped speaking to Harry. Luckily, they reconciled in the end. And a few years later, Ron left Harry and Hermione once again while they were trying to figure out the way how to bring Voldemort down once and for all.

4 He Wasn't Always A Good Role Model

Thousands of children grew up reading Harry Potter's adventures, and there's no doubt many of them also saw Harry as a role model, drew inspiration from his behavior.

But even though Harry had a lot of positive character traits, he wasn't always the best role model. He could be immature, reckless, downright silly at times, and he also had the tendency to lash out at other people.

3 And He Wasn't A Good Dad To Albus

It's true that Harry didn't have a good parenting role model in his life - at least until he met the Weasley family. But he still should have known better.

When his son Albus got sorted into Slytherin, Harry had trouble connecting to his son. They argued, and Harry even went as far as to say to Albus he wished he wasn't his son. That was bad, since no child should ever hear such a thing from their parents.

2 He Didn't Have A Peaceful Life

Until Harry finally defeated Voldemort, he never led a calm and happy life. He didn't get to have a normal childhood or teenage years, simply because he was too busy fighting against one threat or another.

And even though it made him all that much stronger, Harry still missed out on a lot of experiences that many of his classmates, who weren't constantly in mortal danger, got to have.

1 He Was An Orphan

It's possible Harry might not have struggled with raising his young son so much had he grown up with his parents.

But Harry lost his parents at a young age, and even though he didn't really remember them, he still missed them and felt lonely often. Harry eventually learned more about Lily and James, but that didn't change the fact they simply couldn't be there for him and later, for their grandchildren.
