Fuller House: 10 Unpopular Opinions According To Reddit

The sweet, family-friendly sequel to everyone's favorite, '90s show, Full House, Fuller House came to Netflix and, to some people's surprise, became a hit for the past few years. From the DJ and Steve love story to the new kids experiencing middle and high school together, Fuller House is like that sweet and comforting warm cup of apple cider, safe yet with a bold taste.

Reddit users never hold back on their opinions, though, when discussing a show in one of their public conversation threads. There are theories, comments, and debates over character arcs and small storylines of the Netflix family show, with some creating long-term arguments over the chosen topics.

10 Stephanie's Fertility Story

Some Reddit users talk about Stephanie's backstory over her inability to bear children. This bombshell dropped in the first season, but from some viewers' standpoints, it didn't seem like it fully made sense. Some think her desire to bear children was forced and too sudden, while some think it shouldn't have been produced as such a depressing moment for her.

There are some Reddit users such as u/aretheyaliens that mentioned the fact that Stephanie's character possibly didn't need to fall into the motherly story trap, and claim that she could have been happy without children as many modern women agree that this can happen. Alas, that didn't happen and viewers continue to discuss this issue.

9 Steve's Medical Career

Reddit users including an unnamed poster did not hesitate whatsoever in talking about their observation of Steve from the original sitcom when he wasn't so interested in a healthcare field, let alone podiatry. Fans pointed out that Steve's character seemed like it took a huge turn from his original character traits from the '90s original show.

While in reality, people shouldn't be judged on what career path they chose and how they reached that choice, but for the argument's sake of a television show, this is how Reddit users feel regarding Steve's entire personality. They still question how he ever became interested in the podiatry field.

8 DJ Moved On From Her Husband's Death Too Quickly

This was and still is a huge debate among Reddit users, primarily with the user, ILoveBromances. They strongly feel that DJ's character didn't seem genuine enough about losing her husband because of how quick she seemed to jump into Matt's and Steve's arms early on in the show, and claiming that Steve had always been her true love, calling this a "slap in the face" to her first husband.

While the pilot episode does, indeed, show DJ visibly struggling to adjust to her new lifestyle as a single mother and a widow, Reddit users didn't hold back with the general claim that it looked like she barely mourned her husband's death.

7 Danny Should Have A Relationship With Vicky

This conversation stems back to the original show, Full House, but since Fuller House shows the two onscreen, Reddit users, such as idontgetwhyimhere, stick to their opinion that the sequel show shouldn't have focused entirely on DJ and Steve's love story.

Reddit users in this argument thread briefly discuss what they think should have happened in the ways Danny and Vicky could have officially reunited. One other user even suggested that now with Vicky back in San Francisco for the girls' wedding(s), perhaps Danny could have asked her out to catch up. Obviously, that didn't happen on the show, but it's always fun debating over what details could have been added into a new storyline, such as this one about Danny and Vicky.

6 Steph And Kimmy Shouldn't Stay With DJ

Internet users still argue over whether or not Stephanie and Kimmy should have gone with DJ, but multiple users firmly believe that they should never have remained with DJ in the house (although that is a beautiful San Francisco house that audiences love).

Reddit viewers like DustAndShadows42 point out how reliant it was to count on DJ by staying. Many argue that it doesn't add to an independent female character storyline and that it rather makes Kimmy and Stephanie appear dependent. People agree on the notion that the ending, for the two women to stay with the Fuller house (even though some don't consider DJ to still be a Fuller at this point since she married Steve), was too "sappy" and expected. Many viewers wanted more spontaneity from the show rather than expected outcomes.

5 Stephanie's DJ Career Isn't Realistic

What Reddit viewers, such as pineapple192, are confused with is how Stephanie started the show out nearly broke, if not already, and then became a hit singer overnight. Her DJ career also began much more modestly, performing in smaller venues, but then shot off like a rocket into fame when she was a DJ for much bigger events.

While this is a family-friendly show where clearly happily ever afters exist, Reddit users still didn't have a problem talking about how unrealistic Stephanie's DJ career is. The show obviously wanted her character to be the modern sequel to Jessie's bad boy, musician character, which some users agree was a great idea to start with. However, the argument remains intact to this day regarding Steph's quickly-changing career and how people would have wanted to see more realism in how her career could have evolved, as Jessie's did over time.

4 Matt Should Have Been DJ's Future

This will probably forever be a long-winded debate. However, the different arguments surrounding the entire opinion are fascinating because they involve more modern twists. The general gist of one argument by Reddit user, u/only1mrstr, is the reason why DJ should have ended up with Matt is from how it's her chance to move forward and start a fresh life with someone new especially after losing her husband. Reddit users think that Matt could have been DJ's new lifestyle and that Steve would have been too much of a clingy and possibly too traditional match.

This isn't to say that some fans don't absolutely adore Steve and DJ, but there are, of course, the fans of the Matt and DJ coupling. Viewers always found Matt to be more respectful of DJ's wants and needs - more than Steve at least.

3 DJ's Controlling Personality Conflicts With The Original

This was a trait that longtime fans and current viewers saw right from the get-go in the pilot episode. Reddit users debate over how DJ became so controlling, and the obvious answer is that it's because of her dad, Danny Tanner. Danny's most comical trait was always his overbearing parenting nature that would collide with his three daughters' lives as they grew up.

Now, with DJ as the household boss, many users, like u/aretheyaliens, find her to be the control freak that they aren't attracted to as a character. Other users also discuss how odd it was for them to first view DJ, the older sister that engaged in new things as she grew up, always clashing with her controlling father's demeanor, as a total control freak.

2 The Cameos Felt Forced

Reddit users, especially purpleowlchai, just couldn't resist talking about how the guest stars had fun little roles on the show, but most of them just looked and felt like a struggle, at least in the eyes of some viewers. Users mainly complain about how the laugh track adds way too much applause and laughter to a guest star's role in order to push the fact that this person is, in fact, some well-known star.

What's funny is that some even discuss how when they didn't even know a person was a guest star until they heard the recorded applause. This is one of the precise areas in how the cameos continually felt like they were forced on viewers to be funny in some way. Reddit users admit that granted, the entire cast and the show itself tried, but many guest stars just didn't help the show serve the comedy it was looking to provide.

1 Joey's Character Never Progressed

This is an unfortunate point among Reddit discussion threads because countless viewers and loyal fans of the show agree that Joey's persona didn't actually progress much. Also, his several bratty, demonic children reflect the fact that something in his parenting must have gone wrong, but that contradicts with how he helped Danny raise the girls all those years ago.

Joey was seen as the comic relief, but gentle uncle, and now he's the parent of terrible children with a character that in the viewpoint of u/overache just regressed instead of moving forward and growing. Some Reddit users even complain that his entire persona isn't funny, but rather awkward and cheesy to the point where they ended up hating Joey's character in the sequel sitcom.
