Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War could see its first major shift in its meta once Season One rolls out, according to an announcement by developer Treyarch. Season One of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, as well as its Call of Duty: Warzone component were initially meant to launch earlier this week on December 10, but publisher Activision announced that it would be delayed by one week, with the new launch date set for Wednesday, December 16.
According to Activision, delaying the launch of COD: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone Season One was done to give the development team at Treyarch a few more days to get Season One ready. The delay also conveniently moved the launch away from directly competing with the release of Cyberpunk 2077, which came out on December 10 and saw over a million concurrent players on Steam alone. While Call of Duty players wait for the launch of Season One, they can claim two free bundles, which include skins, blueprints, and more, just by logging into the game before the Season One launch next week.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War developer Treyarch published a tweet mentioning that the next “weapon tuning pass” for the game would be released alongside Season One. The announcement was then followed up by another tweet by the game’s lead game designer, Tony Flame, in which he confirmed that Season One will introduce a gameplay turning pass not only for weapons, but also for some other gameplay elements. He adds that the game has been out for almost a month and that it’s “time to shake the meta up for the Holidays.”
Apart from the weapon and gameplay adjustments that are sure to change the game’s meta, Season One is also introducing a ton of new content into both Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone, including new maps, modes, weapons, and much more. Season One will also finally see the crossover between Black Ops Cold War and Warzone, as weapons and attachments from the former are finally making their way to the series' dedicated battle royale.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone players have a lot to look forward to with the launch of Season One, and they should prepare to switch up their strategies come December 16. The Season One adjustments to existing weapons and gameplay mechanics will potentially mark a huge gigantic shift in the game’s meta and will hopefully help refresh the experience for those who have been playing since launch.
