Bachelor: Arie Luyendyk Tests Positive For COVID-19, Isolates From Family

It's been a difficult year, to say the least, for former The Bachelor star Arie Luyendyk Jr. and his wife, Lauren Burnham. After experiencing the heartbreaking miscarriage of their second child in the spring, the couple is now fighting another battle: Arie's positive COVID-19 diagnosis.

The 39-year old race car driver was first introduced to Bachelor Nation on The Bachelorette season eight, where he fought for Emily Maynard's heart. He was then chosen as The Bachelor for season 22, which ended with a proposal to Becca Kufrin. However, that engagement was short-lived after Arie realized runner-up Burnham, 29, was his true love. The pair got married in January 2019 during a scenic ceremony in Maui, Hawaii, and welcomed daughter Alessi Ren into the world a mere four months later.

From afar, life seemed like a fairytale for the Luyendyks. Unfortunately, 2020 reared its ugly head in their Scottsdale, Arizona home. In May, the pair announced on YouTube that Lauren was pregnant with their second child, but suffered a miscarriage. Their strength was put to the test again right before Thanksgiving when Arie tested positive for COVID-19, according to People. In an Instagram Live video, he said, "Many of you have been wondering why we haven't done Bachelor Brunch, why we've been so absent on social media and why I'm sitting like 25 feet away from the girls. It's 'cause I actually tested positive for COVID." Thankfully, his symptoms were mild.

In an effort to keep his girls safe and COVID-free, Arie began isolating "on the other side of the house" after his positive test result. But he's not completely alone (or hungry), thanks to his loving wife. "She's keeping me fed. She just slides some food outside and then I go get it," he said. While the family was able to celebrate Thanksgiving, it was "different," with Arie socially distanced at the opposite end of a lengthy patio table. It's obvious the girls miss being close to Arie. Lauren posted a photo of herself and Alessi on Instagram with the caption, "@ArieJr would be in this pic too, but he has COVID so kisses & pics through windows only for now." The post can be seen below:

Arie Luyendyk is keeping Bachelor Nation updated on his COVID status via Instagram, and answered a number of fan questions. When asked how he contracted the virus, he responded, "Honestly been replaying the past few weeks back but there is no real way to know. We wear masks anytime we leave the house. Possible places could be the vet, grocery store. Wasn't exposed to anyone to my knowledge." He also reflected on how difficult it has been to be separated from Alessi. Arie said, "I like to think she's a daddy's girl. It was really hard for her to understand and it broke my heart. Wanted to hug her but stayed far away or on the other side of the glass."

Currently, Bachelor Nation is waiting to hear if Arie is still COVID-positive. Soon after Thanksgiving, he attempted to get tested again, though he said the line was "insane." Arie is not the first The Bachelor personality to contract the novel coronavirus. In March, Colton Underwood tested positive, and used his platform to warn young people that they, too, can get severely sick from COVID-19.
