Selling Sunset: Why Mary Fitzgerald & Romain Bonnet Plan To Honeymoon In Sydney

Mary Fitzgerald and Romain Bonnet haven’t gone on their honeymoon yet, but they intend to go to Sydney, Australia. Romain has always wanted to show Mary his favorite city and he plans to do so for their wedding vacation.

Fitzgerald and Bonnet are one of the central couples of the Selling Sunset cast. Before Mary and Romain met in 2017, Bonnet lived in Sydney, Australia. During his time there, he worked as a pastry chef in the Mosman suburb on the Lower North Shore. Today, Romain works in Los Angeles as a model and reality TV star. As fans of the luxury real estate show know, Mary works at The Oppenheim Group as a senior associate and is also a reality TV personality. Not only has Selling Sunset followed Mary’s career, it’s followed her relationship with Romain. The finale of the second season featured a private ceremony where Mary and Romain got married. Shortly after their publicized marriage, it was discovered that the couple had eloped in early 2018. Marriage scandal aside, Romain and Mary haven’t gone on their honeymoon yet, but they’ve been making plans.

Earlier in October, Mary and Romain celebrated their first wedding anniversary, that is the anniversary since their wedding on Selling Sunset. The couple hasn’t had a chance to go on a honeymoon yet because of their work on the show and the COVID-19 lockdown. In a promotional interview, Romain talked about his experience in Sydney, “It's one of my favorite cities in the world after LA, because I have everything here. But if I could go anywhere, I would go straight back to Sydney. I always tell Mary it's one of my favorite cities — she's never been there and I've always wanted to take her there.” Fitzgerald mentioned their current honeymoon plans, “When we finally get to go on our honeymoon in Bali, we're probably going to stop over in Sydney.”

Bonnet opened up about how he made it to Los Angeles. He explained that he lived and worked in Australia for three years until he was discovered by a modeling agency. The agency offered him a position which would require him to move to Los Angeles permanently. When he relocated, Romain was looking at properties with his real estate agent, Mary. “Clients gave me her contact because we were a bunch of chefs coming to LA for work and we were going to look for a place. Mary and I were talking for about six months on WhatsApp because my papers were taking longer than expected. And then when I came here to LA and said, 'I'm finally here', and she was in France [for a friend's wedding]!” Romain reminisced on the earlier days of their relationship. “But then she came back and she started showing me around. Then I asked her to go for drinks and that's how it all started.”

Despite the couple’s charming love story, Mary had some doubts in the beginning of their relationship. One of the issues they’ve worked through is their 13-year age gap, some of which was depicted on Selling Sunset. “When I found out how old he was, I was like, 'Oh, my God. This is not going to work.' But he doesn't act his age, though," Mary explained. "We got along so well right from the start. We just had a connection right away so started dating a week later." Fitzgerald has been married in the past, but unfortunately she was widowed.

Many people are itching to travel, but are restricted by COVID-19. Romain and Mary are patiently waiting for the coronavirus pandemic to pass so they can enjoy their honeymoon together. It’s adorable that Bonnet wants to show Fitzgerald a part of the world that’s close to his heart. Perhaps on the next season of Selling Sunset we can get a peek at their honeymoon.
