Sebastian Stan Thinks The 355 Women Could Beat Winter Soldier

The 355 actor Sebastian Stan is confident the women of the movie could beat the Winter Soldier. One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most complicated characters, Bucky Barnes/the Winter Soldier made his debut in Captain America: The First Avenger. Initially introduced as Steve Rogers' best friend, everything changed for Bucky when he was brainwashed by HYDRA. Initially reemerging as a foe, the Winter Soldier eventually became an ally to the Avengers. He'll soon team up with Captain America's other friend Sam Wilson for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+. The show will further Bucky's story, this time apart from Steve.

Though Stan is arguably best known for his MCU character, he's also found time to star in other TV shows and movies. One of these is The 355, an upcoming female-led spy film. The movie stars Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong'o, Penélope Cruz, Fan Bingbing, and Diane Kruger as agents from different organizations around the world. They team up to recover a secret weapon. The first trailer for The 355 dropped earlier this week, teasing an exciting action film. The movie is set to release January 15, 2021.

This weekend, EW and Universal hosted a panel celebrating the women of The 355. When asked if he thought the spies could beat the Winter Solider, Stan responded:

Yes of course. I mean come on. I know you said I'm familiar with this sort of thing, but actually there was a lot of stuff here that was very interesting that I didn't get to do before, action wise, as you might or might not see, so I'm excited from that point of view, but yeah, for sure they could.

Considering the skills showcased in The 355 trailer, this statement isn't too surprising. It's clear the characters are experienced spies who would also have a numbers advantage over Stan's Winter Soldier. However, even one-on-one, any of the women could likely take Bucky down using their impressive training. It will be interesting to see Stan in a different role, especially with how often he's played the Winter Soldier in the last ten years. Still, the MCU has spy elements of its own, meaning that The 355 isn't too much of a departure for the actor.

It shouldn't be a rarity, but it's refreshing to hear a male actor so confident his character would be bested by a group of skilled women. Too often, brute strength is seen as the most important component of a fight, but many TV shows and movies have proven that isn't the case. Hopefully, audiences excited about The 355 get to see it in January as planned. Though the theatrical release schedule is far from set in stone at this point, Stan has certainly given moviegoers a reason to be excited about the upcoming film.
