God of War: Fallen God Comic Delayed To Spring 2021

God of War for PlayStation 4 quickly became one of the console’s most renowned titles, but also left fans with many questions about Kratos’ journey after God of War III - questions that were supposed to be explored in God of War: Fallen God. Fortunately, those long-awaited answers are still coming, though fans will just need to wait a little longer than expected to get them.

2018’s God of War breathed new life into the Greek mythology-inspired franchise by bringing Kratos into the realm of the Norse gods. Seeing an older, wiser, less-angry Kratos struggle with fatherhood as he travels across this new land with his son was certainly a refreshing change of pace for the series. However, exactly how Kratos came to be settled in this new life was never fully explained, leaving a sizable narrative gap in between the third and fourth installments - a gap that will be bridged by God of War: Fallen God.

God of War: Fallen God is an upcoming series from Dark Horse Comics by Chris Roberson set after God of War III but before the latest game. The official synopsis implies that the first issue will pick up where the third game left off. In the aftermath of defeating the Olympian gods, Kratos “sets sail for the desert in an attempt to distance himself from his home and his shame, only to find his rage and guilt follow close behind.” Interestingly, the fact that Kratos will be heading towards the desert in issue #1 implies that the Norse realm was not the first stop on his journey post-God of War III. Since other mythologies are referenced in 2018’s God of War, it’s possible that Kratos will encounter other ancient deities during his travels. However, it seems that Kratos’ greatest enemy in Fallen God will be himself, as he learns to tame the unruly inner demons that haunted him throughout the original trilogy.

God of War: Fallen God #1 was originally supposed to be released on June 24, 2020, but the issue never dropped, leading some to believe that the series had been cancelled. However, Dark Horse Comics recently addressed these rumors on Twitter and put them to rest, saying, “This series has not been cancelled, just delayed due to COVID-19 closures.” Dark Horse also revealed that the new release date is slated for Spring 2021 and promised more details as the time gets closer.

As with everything in the world right now, this new release date largely depends on how the pandemic progresses, but with any luck, God of War: Fallen God will be available next Spring. With God of War: Ragnarok also scheduled for release next year, it looks like 2021 will be a great time to be a God of War fan.
