Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23: James Van Der Beek & 9 Other Actors Who Appeared As Themselves In The Series

One of the reasons Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 was so good was because of all of the cameos by famous celebrities throughout the series. It gave it an extra edge as fans were drawn to this mix of reality and fictional comedy all rolled into one. James Van Der Beek was a regular on the show, but there were several others who came along to portray themselves in various episodes.

It is such a wide range of personalities that each one was more unexpected than the next as they come from all types of backgrounds and a wide range of ages. Keep reading to learn about some of the cameos on the show where various celebrities played themselves on the episodes of this show!

10 James Van Der Beek

James Van Der Beek is one of the main characters on the show and he plays himself throughout the series. However, it is a comedic version of this actor as he puts off this hilarious persona that pokes fun at his former role as Dawson Leery on Dawson's Creek.

He is part of what makes the show so great as fans look forward to his appearance and the outrageous things he plans to do next.

9 Kevin Sorbo

Chloe decided to crash the wedding where June took James Van Der Beek as her date, but she wanted to take someone famous.

She chose Kevin Sorbo to escort her, although she lied to him and told him it was a benefit for MS, a disease his mother suffers from. Fans probably remember him in films such as Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Andromeda.

8 Karina Smirnoff

Karina Smirnoff was one of the professional dancers on Dancing With the Stars from 2006 to 2016 and she reprised this role in Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23. She was chosen as Dean Cain's partner when James Van Der Beek made it onto the show and Smirnoff nailed the dance like the perfectionist she is known to be.

It was cool how they included her in the cast as they could have chosen any dancer, but instead decided to stay true to the Dancing With the Stars actual cast.

7 Kiernan Shipka

Those who have seen Mad Men will recognize this actress from Season 1 Episode 3 of the show. James Van Der Beek was up for a part in a new switcheroo movie where they trade bodies in an alternative Freaky Friday-type film.

They study one another in order to get into character, but James eventually blows it and loses the job. Shipka does an excellent job playing herself in this episode as she attempts to help her costar with this desirable part.

6 Charo

Chloe was obsessed with Charo, a Spanish-American singer, guitar player, actress, and comedian all rolled into one. It is no wonder that Chloe idolized her so much and wanted tickets to her concerts, especially after fans watched her perform a small number on the show.

She might have only appeared to Chloe in a revenge-driven dream, but she won the hearts of many the moment she appeared on screen for the first time.

5 Dean Cain

Dean Cain was another regular on the show who made consistent appearances, especially during Van Der Beek's run on Dancing With the Stars.

He first appears when Luther picks the wrong dressing room as the other room happens to be larger, leading to James to steal the dressing room from Fred Savage. They eventually face off with their own dance numbers as they go head-to-head in this competition to remember.

4 Richard Dean Anderson

Richard Dean Anderson was a secret agent on a show called MacGyver back in the '80s and '90s before making his debut on this show. He plays the part of James Van Der Beek's father in Chloe's dream and their first father-son moment has them potentially defusing a bomb together.

Chloe then tells him about her dream when she wakes up and James takes the initiative to go to Anderson's house and find out the truth for himself. He obviously denies the accusation, but the whole encounter is so bizarre that this is one question that is still left unanswered.

3 Busy Philipps

James Van Der Beek learns that Chloe has been the one making the 'letters' from the Dawson's Creek producers asking him to come back for a reunion show.

The truth is that no one wants to work with him and Busy Philipps, a former cast member, is the one who laid it all out on the table for him. He had apparently convinced the entire Dawson's Creek cast to buy rowboats for the entire crew as an 'end of the show' gift, but he never paid his share and left them with a bill for 145 boats.

2 Frankie Muniz

Frankie Muniz became the center of one of James Van Der Beek's schemes when he was ambushed in the grocery store with one of his great ideas. He wanted to take a new spin on a reunion show by doing a Dawson's Creek and Malcolm in the Middle crossover episode.

Muniz leaves the episode like the boss he is by handing off his grocery list to Chloe claiming "it's probably worth something" before putting on a pair of aviators and walking to the checkout line so he can start cooking for his barbecue.

1 Mark-Paul Gosselaar

Mark-Paul Gosselaar appears to help James Van Der Beek move past the idea of a reunion episode as he presents him with his book about "finding the now."

He was originally from the show called Saved by the Bell and his black turtleneck sells his piece on this subject. He finally convinces James to let go of the past which ends with him burning a rowboat filled with everything from his Dawson Creek days.
