Along with breathtaking visual art, the studio has amassed a reputation for dynamic characters, each with their own distinctive personalities and traits that make them all the more relatable and real. While Studio Ghibli films are known for featuring strong female characters, there are plenty of protagonists, both male and female, that each of the signs can identify with.

12 Aries: Sophie - Howl's Moving Castle

Sophie is a dynamic character that a lot of different signs could identify with because of all the strange circumstances she finds herself in. Cursed by The Witch of the Waste, she's forced to leave her simple life as a hatter and try to find a way to break the curse. She's able to team up with Calcifer and hires herself as the Castle's cleaning lady. She even heroically saves Howl's life by returning his heart to him.

Aries signs are often ambitious and bold, charging headfirst into action and ready to meet any challenge. While Sophie can also be seen as a character with a quiet determination, there's no doubt that once she was cursed by the Witch of the Waste, she spent no time waiting around for things to get better and took it upon herself to find the solution.

11 Taurus: Umi - From Up On Poppy Hill

Umi is a quiet and kind character and takes pleasure in simple things, following a daily routine to honor her father's memory. She isn't afraid of hard work and spends much of her time helping run her grandmother's boarding house, going to school, and - later in the film - helping restore a beloved clubhouse.

Like any Taurus, Umi is stoic, hardworking, and stubborn about her emotions, but also has a helpful, loving personality.

10 Gemini: Kiki - Kiki's Delivery Service

Kiki's Delivery Service is a wonderful coming-of-age film that made little girls of the 90s want to grow up to be witches when the English VHS was released in the U.S. The title character, Kiki, is determined to prove herself and discover the true scope of her powers when she sets off on her own for her witch training. However, once she finds her new home and starts up a delivery business, things don't always go smoothly for her. She eventually overcomes her struggles and finds success and friendship in her new environment

Like Kiki, Geminis are adaptable and outgoing, but can be hesitant and fickle in relationships. Kiki takes a long time to warm up to Tombo, but once she overcomes her artist's block and rejuvenates her powers, she ends up saving his life and they become closer than ever.

9 Cancer: Chihiro - Spirited Away

Spirited Away is regarded as one of the greatest animes and holds the title for the highest-grossing film in Japanese history. Chihiro is a character that goes through a tremendous character arc filled with personal growth and finds herself in a lot of new and frightening situations from which she must learn and adapt.

Despite the changes she makes, her initial fears, and even almost losing her own name, one thing that remains constant is Chihiro's kindness and care for others throughout Spirited Away. She's loyal to her friendship with Haku, even when other characters make her doubt him. These are all classic traits of the Cancer sign.

8 Leo: Nausicaä - Nausicaä Of The Valley Of The Wind

Nausicaä Of The Valley Of The Wind was actually created a year before Studio Ghibli was founded, but it's still considered a Ghibli work since both the creators went on to found the animation studio. Nausicaä may be a princess but she's also a Studio Ghibli female character, which means she's not afraid to back down from a fight and show her strength and cunning.

Like any Leo, she's energetic and proud of her home and determined in her mission to co-exist with the giant insects of the toxic jungle.

7 Virgo: Shizuku - Whisper Of The Heart

Right at the start of the film, it's clear to the viewers that Shizuku is a lover of books and literature. This falls right in line with the Virgo sign - Virgos have a deep appreciation for studying - they are usually pretty logical and they like to keep busy with their hobbies.

Shizuku takes this to the next level when she takes it upon herself to write an epic story about Baron the cat and herself as the female protagonist. Like many Virgos, she's a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to her work and she pushes herself hard to finish the story, ultimately succeeding and following through with her goals.

6 Libra: Jiro - The Wind Rises

Libras can be quietly intelligent and dedicated to their work, which is exactly the way most audiences would describe this protagonist from The Wind Rises. Jiro's life is filled with huge accomplishments, equally large setbacks, pride, regrets, and heavy questions of morality, as he helps to build and design planes used as weapons of war.

While he does seem to have an internal struggle with some of the decisions he makes, Jiro still gets the most out of his life and his short but intense time spent in a loving relationship.

5 Scorpio: Arrietty - The Secret World Of Arrietty

The Secret World Of Arrietty is a 2010 Ghibli film featuring tiny borrowers that live amongst humans. Arrietty's life as a Borrower is somewhat turbulent and challenging, but just as any Scorpio would, she doesn't give up easily.

Mysterious and crafty, Arrietty carries on the tradition of the Borrowers while also building an allyship with Shō, the human. Her determination and dedication to her life and family are all traits that can be found in Scorpios.

4 Sagittarius: Ashitaka - Princess Mononoke

Ashitaka from Princess Mononoke is one of the fiercest characters on this list - a great ally and friend to San. Sagittarius' are often adventurous and sincere, which explains Ashitaka's willingness to leave his village behind to seek truth and justice for himself after surviving a demon attack.

Ashitaka's heroic adventures continue throughout the film, and he isn't afraid to take a stand for San and her wolf spirit family. Sagittarius signs have a lot of value and respect for family, which is something that Ashitaka displays frequently.

3 Capricorn: Sōsuke - Ponyo

Ponyo takes place in a seaside town surrounded by beautiful rolling waves and a wild host of underwater characters. After meeting Sōsuke as a small magic fish, Ponyo wants to become human and runs away from her father to live with him. Once she does this, strange things begin occurring around the ocean and the town.

Sōsuke is just a little boy but he has a mature and kind personality, much like those found in Capricorns. Some of the most common traits in Capricorns are ambition and persistence, which are perfect for Sōsuke's character since he has to pass a challenging test in order to keep Ponyo from turning into seafoam.

2 Aquarius: Kaguya - The Tale Of Princess Kaguya

This 2013 film features beautiful watercolor animation and is based on a 10th-century traditional tale. It's an emotional story that details the life of Princess Kaguya, a mythical girl who grew from a bamboo shoot into a young woman with great expectations placed upon her.

What makes her relatable to the Aquarius sign is her love of freedom and her dislike of the banal responsibilities of a princess. She longs for the days of playing with her friends in the countryside. Aquarius signs hold great value in their friendships and prefer to carve out their own destiny, rather than follow the path chosen for them.

1 Pisces: Satsuki - My Neighbor Totoro

Satsuki is a young girl saddled with tons of responsibility in My Neighbor TotoroShe handles it well and is another character that is mature beyond her years. There are a lot of stressors in her life, like taking care of her sister, her mother's frail health, and the big change of moving into a dusty old house, filled with spirits in and around it.

Pisces are very loving, intuitive, and wise, which are characteristics that often manifest in Satsuki when she is dealing with a crisis or interacting with her family members. She is a great example of a Pisces because of her selflessness, compassion, and the way she uses these traits to contribute to her family's healing.
