What PlayStation 5 Launch Titles Sony May Reveal With PS5's Price

With Microsoft finally confirming the pricing and release date for the Xbox Series X, all eyes are on Sony to do the same for the PlayStation 5. But what games will Sony announce as launch titles when they finally unveil release plans for the PS5?

The much-anticipated PlayStation 5 was officially announced for Holiday 2020 in October 2019. Since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting specific release date and pricing information. With the announcement of the upcoming PlayStation 5 showcase on September 16th, gamers are hopeful that Sony will finally confirm those details. As the showcase will also focus on games for the next-gen console, it seems likely that Sony will also confirm which games can be expected with the PS5's launch. While no announcements have officially been made, there's some likely titles that could be ready to go on launch day.

First and foremost is Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the spin-off game that opened the last Playstation 5 showcase. The announcement of this game took many by surprise, especially with its Holiday 2020 release date. Given the popularity of Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man, it seems likely the Miles Morales-focused game will be a launch title. Meanwhile, Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart had a considerable gameplay demo at the recent Gamescom Opening Night event, which concluded with Insomniac confirming the game would release "in the PS5 launch window." Godfall is another likely candidate for launch, given that pre-order details for Godfall were just announced, with release date information for the PS5 coming soon - likely during the upcoming PS5 Showcase.

Other games have been the source of speculation and rumor as launch title possibilities. The Demon's Souls remake, for instance, has already been given a game rating in South Korea, even though the game hasn't even officially confirmed it'll be out this year. The internet is also abuzz with the possibility of Final Fantasy 16 being officially announced this week, after a developer of the game tweeted and then deleted his tweet about the PlayStation 5 showcase. Hope remains alive that the game might be a surprise launch title for the console. Rumors also continue that Silent Hill remake is in development, and could be a dark horse contender to be announced for the launch window.

There are of course some other big name games that will likely be on the PS5 when it launches, even if they debut elsewhere first. Watch Dogs: Legion and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, for instance, release in Fall 2020 and will have next gen versions available. Highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 releases on November 19th, 2020, and though it officially launches on the PS4, it was confirmed Cyberpunk 2077 would be backwards compatible with the PS5, making it available on the console's launch. In short, the PlayStation 5 should have plenty of promising games available when it launches for Holiday 2020.
