The Witcher: Jason Momoa Shares Fan Art With Henry Cavill

Jason Momoa shared a viral piece of fan art for Netflix's The Witcher with none other than Geralt himself, Henry Cavill, last night. Based on a series of novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher takes place in a fictional fantasy land known as the Continent and follows Cavill's Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter struggling to find his place in the world. The series made its debut on Netflix last year, and despite being welcomed with mildly-positive reviews from critics, it was an immense success for the streaming service. The show's immediate popularity was good news for Netflix too since the streamer had already handed out a season 2 renewal for The Witcher before the premiere of its first.

Production on season 2 of The Witcher was predictably delayed earlier this year by the Coronavirus outbreak, but shooting finally started up again last month. While work on the new season appears to be going well so far too, there's still quite a bit of time before The Witcher season 2 hits television screens. Fortunately, new images from The Witcher season 2 set have helped keep the hype up for the series, and while they wait for the show's return, some dedicated Witcher fans have kept themselves busy with fun pieces of fan-casting.

That was certainly the case a few days ago when a piece of Witcher fan art featuring Momoa and Cavill's Geralt standing back-to-back went viral. It looks like Witcher fans weren't the only ones impressed by the artwork, either. Momoa himself shared the piece on his Instagram stories last night and even went so far as to tag Cavill when he did. Check out the actor's post below:

Notably, The Witcher season 2 isn't the only Witcher-related content that Netflix is working on at the moment. Netflix also announced The Witcher: Blood Origin earlier this year as well, and rumors have begun to spread that Momoa may be in talks for the lead role in the spin-off series. So it's entirely possible that this is Momoa's way of hinting at there being truth to those rumors, or it could just be him having some fun on social media. Until there's a Blood Origin casting announcement made, it's impossible to know for sure.

Set 1200 years prior to the events of the current show, The Witcher: Blood Origin is a 6-part live-action prequel series that will tell the story of how the first-ever Witcher came into existence. That certainly sounds like the kind of role that Momoa would more than be suited for, and considering the actor's legitimate star power, it's easy to see why he'd be a prime choice for the show's producers. He also, obviously, has more than enough experience doing complex stunts and fights onscreen to be able to convincingly hold his own in The Witcher world. In other words, Momoa joining The Witcher franchise makes all the sense in the world, but only time will tell if it'll actually happen or not.
