The Office: 10 Details About Season 5 Everyone Forgot

Most fans who have seen The Office have probably seen the series on more than one occasion and have probably binged it a few times, which causes the episodes and seasons to sometimes get clouded together. Season 5 is probably one of the greatest seasons of the series as it sets up a number of new plotlines and introduces some great characters.

Season five of The Office is also the last full season where Dunder Mifflin and David Wallace are relevant to Michael and his team, before their merge with Sabre. A lot of things happen within season five, some of which are extremely memorable (such as Jim and Pam's engagement) while others become lost between the seasons.

10 New Faces

In season 5, fans get to meet a couple of new faces who become pretty important to the core plot of the series. For one, there is Erin. Erin becomes the new receptionist after Pam decides to become a sales rep at the Michael Scott Paper Company.

Erin remains one of the main characters throughout the rest of the series and is one of the main side characters with the biggest subplots. This season also introduces Charles, who becomes one of the most disliked characters by fans but most liked by the ladies of the office.

9 The Return Of Karen

Karen returns in this season for one episode and meets Pam and Michael. The two are surprised to see that Karen is pregnant and happily married, forgiving Pam for all the drama that happened before.

While Karen is disliked by many fans due to the fact that she intervenes in Jim and Pam's progression, they also seem to understand that Karen was a pretty cool character on her own. At this point, Pam also sees this and acknowledges that if the situation were different, she and Karen probably could have been friends.

8 Michael Meeting "The One"

Obviously Holly is the only one for Michael. She is one of the main focuses in his plot this season and the cause for a lot of his actions. However, in between Holly moving to Nashua and Michael winning her back, Michael meets someone that every fan has been left wondering about.

The woman who left her glove at the Blood Drive. While Holly and Michael are actually the best pairings, there was something about this woman that struck Michael as being his perfect match, a woman that he never found again.

7 Michael Scott Paper Company

Season 5 was also the season with the rise and fall of the Michael Scott Paper Company. Michael, Ryan, and Pam all left Dunder Mifflin when they felt like they were being treated unfairly to start their own paper company in attempts to rival those who had wronged them.

This was in the same era as Charles, who continuously put up a valiant effort to sabotage Michael and his crew, and Dwight's allegiance changed from being ever faithful to Michael to joining Charles.

6 The End Of Pam The Receptionist

Pam's main reason for leaving Dunder Mifflin is because she was utterly fed up with always being the receptionist at the office. She wanted more for herself and knew that she had all the potential to join the sales team.

One of the Michael Scott Paper Company demands when Dunder Mifflin was buying them out was the fact that Pam would be moved to a sales position, especially since her old receptionist position had been already filled by Erin.

5 The Fire Drill

The fire drill sequence in "Stress Relief" is easily one of the greatest comedic moments in all of The Office. It is utterly hilarious and almost all fans will agree that it is probably one of the greatest openings to an episode there is.

The utter and sheer chaos of everything going on, everyone trying to escape, Dwight attempting to calmly explain the procedure, Kevin raiding the vending machine, and Angela trying to save Bandit which all eventually leads to Stanley's heart attack. It is one of the greatest sequences in the series and it just so happens to land in season 5.

4 Famous Memes

Other than the fire drill, this season has some of the most noteworthy Office memes on the internet. In episode one, "Weight Loss," Kelly is on a super cleanse diet to try to win the weight loss challenge in the office. The meme of her looking extremely tired and ill while saying "I look amazing" takes place during this episode.

In episode 26, "Casual Friday," the episode begins with Kevin carrying in his famous chili before the entire giant pot lands on him and all over the office floor. This scene is super iconic and had been memed a ton.

3 Astrid

This season is also when Astrid, Jan's baby, is born. Astrid is a running joke throughout the rest of the series due to Jan's awkward singing performance at the baby shower that Michael holds for her in the office.

Before Astrid is born, Michael believes that the baby is his but soon finds out is it not. Because Michael desperately wants children he decides that he is going to treat the baby as his own. But Jan makes him feel bad, like always, and he realizes that maybe he doesn't need to care about her. Astrid, and the song Jan forces everyone to listen to, are pretty big jokes within The Office fandom.

2 Phyllis's Revenge

Phyllis is constantly walked all over by Angela throughout the entire series. But in this season, Phyllis gets some dirt on Angela and starts holding it over her head. In this season, Angela and Andy are engaged, but Angela is still sleeping with Dwight.

Phyllis catches Angela and Dwight and promises to keep it a secret, as long as Angela does what she says. Which of course, means being the servant of the Party Planning Committee's Morrocan Christmas Party. Though fans kind of feel bad for Angela, they can't help but feel satisfied that Phyllis is finally standing up for herself.

1 The Best Of Meredith

Meredith is one of the best side characters in the series and actually gets a ton of screen time within this season that pushes her to become a fan-favorite character. In the Christmas episode for the season, Michael decides to hold an intervention for Meredith and her drinking problem after she gets drunk at the party and lights herself on fire.

This problem continues throughout the episode as Michael tries to force her into rehab. At the end of the season, Meredith ruins casual Fridays for everyone, forever. She attends in a super inappropriate dress and accidentally reveals herself to the entire office.
