The development of Resident Evil 8, or Resident Evil Village, may be having some issues specific to its PlayStation 5 version that simply aren't present on Xbox Series X and Series S and PC. Resident Evil 8 is the latest instalment in the popular survival horror series that has seen a significant resurgence in fan interest thanks to two superb remakes over the last two years: Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3.
Resident Evil 8 is set to pick up closer to when Resident Evil 7 took place than the two remakes, but that doesn't have fans any less excited for what the game appears to be promising. In fact, Resident Evil 8 appears to be influenced aesthetically quite heavily by Resident Evil 4, a game that many consider to be the series' peak in modern gaming. That, combined with brief demonstrations of Resident Evil 8 graphics that look incredible and a story with just enough hooks to get those more familiar with franchise lore digging for clues, has created a strong sense of anticipation among many consumers eager to dive back into the world of Umbrella Corporation and all its mistakes.
According to a trusted leaker, however, Resident Evil 8 PS5 may be experiencing issues during its development that are significantly hampering Capcom's efforts. In a tweet thread shared a few days ago, AestheticGamer stated that Resident Evil 8's focus on faster loading - enabled at least in part due to next-gen console tech - has shifted enough focus around that it has begun causing issues for PlayStation 5. According to AestheticGamer, Xbox Series X/Series S and PC are working fine, but the next-gen improvements have hurt Resident Evil 8 PS5 a fair bit - enough that Capcom is considering going "all-in" on next-gen rather than making the game more widely accessible across platforms.
While leaks of this magnitude tend to be proven false quite quickly when they're not coming from more official sources, AestheticGamer is worth paying attention to, as they've been consistent with their information. AestheticGamer isn't always right, so this rumor should still be taken with a grain of salt - but consumers should at least keep an eye out for any more signs that Resident Evil 8 on PS5 is in trouble during development.
That being said, the Resident Evil 8 PS5 Showcase trailer was jaw-dropping, and it doesn't seem like the game as a whole is in any danger of being dramatically impacted by developmental hiccups. While Resident Evil 8 PS5 issues are something to have on everyone's radar, the true takeaway from Capcom's showcase of its next RE game is that it looks good - and stands a good chance of being another stellar addition to a franchise that has had quite a few of them recently.
