Microsoft Flight Simulator has seen massive success since its release, and now officially holds the record for biggest launch ever on the PC version of Xbox Game Pass. The game is currently a PC exclusive, though an Xbox One version is planned. Microsoft Flight Simulator was review bombed at launch for featuring long load times, but since then many have recognized it for the masterful, robust flight simulation that it is.
It's been about half a month since the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator, and in that time, players have done some truly incredible things. The game's advanced live weather mode gave fans a chance to get up close and personal with the devastating Hurricane Laura, for instance, and they took some truly awe-inspiring photos while they were there. The game uses real life mapping data to provide an accurate simulation of the entire world, and that's led players to seek some truly unconventional destinations, like Area 51 and the Bermuda Triangle. It's been truly fascinating to see how players have engaged with the world and mechanics of the game.
Now, Microsoft has confirmed in an issue of Xbox Wire that a lot of players have been spending time in Microsoft Flight Simulator. Just weeks after its release, the game has racked up over a million players, making it the biggest launch on Xbox Game Pass for PC so far. In total, 26 million individual flights have been recorded in the simulator, coming out to over 1 billion miles, which Microsoft points out is the equivalent of flying all the way around the world 40,000 times. Microsoft has also recorded the longest single flight undertaken in the game, which took over 10 hours. In addition to sharing the stats, Microsoft included a trailer boasting some of the rave reviews the game has received since launch. Watch it below:
Microsoft is clearly proud of what it's accomplished with Microsoft Flight Simulator, but if this update is to be believed, the developer has no intention of resting on its laurels. It's already promised future updates to the world and the simulation gameplay, as well as themed DLC for the game. Details are scarce for what these updates will look like or when fans can expect more info about them, but it seems like the future of Microsoft Flight Simulator is looking bright.
There are few games like Microsoft Flight Simulator. The sheer scale of the game is mind-boggling, and the level of graphical fidelity on offer is staggering. Players have rightfully latched onto the game for the freedom it offers. Microsoft Flight Simulator is already a massive success, and fans should be happy to know that it will only get bigger as time goes on.
Microsoft Flight Simulator is available now on PC.
