Hocus Pocus: 5 Times Sarah Was The Strongest Sister (& 5 Times She Was The Weakest)

Hocus Pocus came out in 1993 and was such a Halloween sensation that Disney is in talks about coming out with a sequel. Starring Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, Sarah Jessica Parker as the iconic Sanderson sisters, the women came back to Salem 300 years after being hung for witchcraft. Their mission is to kill as many children as possible to remain young, beautiful, and live forever. As all Hocus Pocus fans know, however, fate had a different plan for them.

In the film, Sarah Sanderson isn't the sharpest tool in the shed and is typically seen dancing around in the background than helping her sisters take on the mortal world. But Sarah does have her strengths to combat her weakness. Take a look below at all of Sarah's highest and lowest points.

10 Strongest: Her Voice Is Magic In Itself

The Sanderson sisters each have their own unique power and ability. For Sarah, it's her voice. Her high-pitch voice gave her the ability to sing songs that lured children from their homes and into the night.

With the children mesmerized by her voice, the Sanderson sisters would be able to suck the youth out of them and live forever. Or as her sister Winifred said, "bring the brats to die!"

9 Weakest: She's Too Boy Crazy To Focus On The Topic At Hand

Sarah is a very flirtatious witch who loves to "play" with her victims, especially if they're male. She seems very boy-crazy and is in awe when an attractive male crosses her path. Sadly, Sarah is usually so distracted by boys that she can't focus on what her sisters' game plan is.

She did this with Thackery Binx at the beginning of the movie and later when she finds Max. To be fair, she was in a coma of sorts for 300 years, so she was happy to see a boy after hundreds of years alone. But she's still far too obsessed with boys to do anything helpful.

8 Strongest: She's Brave

As boy crazy and loopy as Sarah is, she's far braver than people realize. When the Sanderson sisters are awoken, they run outside of their home to chase Max, Dani, and Allison (side note: many think Allison was a witch herself in this scene!). But when they come across a road, they stop in their tracks.

They've never seen a paved road before and Winifred assumed it was a mysterious black river. To test her theory, she pushed Sarah into the black river. And even though Sarah screamed in fear, she still followed along with it and didn't try to pull her sisters in with her. After she realized the black river was just a road, she danced happily and welcomed these new changes 300 years later.

7 Weakest: Is She As Trustworthy As Her Sisters?

Sarah loves her sisters but she doesn't seem trustworthy. Not only does she not offer her sisters much help in their prospects but Winifred can't trust her with anything she needs.

A great example of this is when Thackery Binx introduced Billy's gravesite to Max, Dani, and Allison. He said that Billy was Winifred's ex-boyfriend but after she found out Billy was sleeping with her sister Sarah, she sewed his mouth shut for all eternity. It's pretty ballsy for Sarah to sleep with her sister's boyfriend...

6 Strongest: Her Memory Is Still Sharp After 300 Years

Sarah may overly flirtatious and untrustworthy but we can't fault her memory. After being away for 300 years, she was able to help Winifred and Mary remember the potion they needed without the book. Without Winnie's book, they're not as strong or as confident as they appear.

Winifred had to go back in time to think of the potion they last made 300 years ago. All the sisters were trying to think back when Sarah gleefully says "dead man's toe!" which was the missing ingredient to make their potion work.

5 Weakest: She's Never Fully Involved In The Plan

Whenever Winifred is thinking of a gameplan, it's typically her and Mary conniving. In the background is Sarah "dancing idiotically" or climbing random things. She appears to have a one-track mind and is distracted often. The relationship between the Sanderson sisters makes them different from any other Halloween movie.

When the Sanderson sisters are brought back to life, Winifred thinks of a way to stay young and beautiful forever but she needed the help of her sisters to make it work. When Winifred asked her sisters if they comprehended, Sarah said "Understand what?" It appears Sarah doesn't care if she lives longer than one more day.

4 Strongest: She Uses Her Sexuality To Get What She Wants

As flirtatious and boy crazy as Sarah can be, sometimes her sexuality is enough to get the sisters what they need. Aside from having a beautiful singing voice, Sarah knows her looks can get her places. It will be interesting to see if the same occurs in the sequel.

When the women come face to face with a bus, Sarah's good looks are enough to get the bus driver to drop them off where they need to go (without payment, I should add). She also has a magical touch with Billy who didn't care to harm her, only her sister Winifred.

3 Weakest: She's Not As Evil As Winifred Needs Her To Be

If we take a look at each Sanderson sister as they are without each other, they all have their own strengths, weaknesses, and evil tendencies. But when we take a look at Sarah, if she wasn't encouraged by Winifred, she wouldn't be an evil witch.

Sure, she loves to "play" with boys but this is something she could have done without evil connotations to it, especially if the man she chose was a consensual partner. If Sarah were living alone, she wouldn't be trying to kill children. She'd be at a club somewhere dancing away and luring men home.

2 Strongest: She Was The Only One To Not Be Captured By The Kids In The Graveyard

At the end of the movie, Dani, Max, Thackery, and Allison lured the Sanderson sisters to the graveyard because they knew they were semi-safe on holy ground. With the help of Billy's grave and salt, Dani was safe for the time being.

But once the Sanderson sisters found them, they darted after everyone one their brooms. Winifred and Mary were both smacked around and attacked but not Sarah. She stayed high above and was the only one not seriously attacked. Well, that is until she died of course.

1 Weakest: She Would Not Be Alive Without Her Sisters

This should be said for all the Sanderson sisters, none of them would be in the position they were in without each other. Without Winifred's book, gameplan, or ideas, Sarah would have stayed dead in Salem hundreds of years beforehand.

She's purely a follower who's just trying to be helpful in her own way and have a good time before the inevitable. Without Winifred and Mary, Sarah wouldn't be where she was in the '90s.
