Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards Are Making A Return | Screen Rant

Nintendo is bringing back Amiibo cards for its overwhelmingly popular life simulation game Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Collectible Amiibo figures and trading cards serve a special purpose in the latest Animal Crossing game by allowing players to invite specific villagers to visit their island and possibly even more in their permanently.

If the Animal Crossing series is known for only one thing, it's the adorable animal villagers that populate the game. These charming anthropomorphized critters are the heart and soul of Animal Crossing, and several fans have very strong feelings about their favorites. Nintendo's Amiibo cards are a very hot commodity for this reason because they allow players to get in touch with their all-time favorites with which to populate their island. Since there are nearly 400 different villagers in the game, having this opportunity to weed out the most beloved characters is a big deal. Because of this, Amiibo cards are a hot commodity. Official retailers sell out fast whenever there's a restock, and this leads to scalpers selling coveted villager cards for thousands of dollars on eBay.

To combat these scalpers, Nintendo announced recently that the next restock would use a different manufacturing process and make the cards to order. Preorders for this run started in Japan this May and lasted through June. Earlier today, on Nintendo of America's Twitter account, it was announced that the first four series of Animal Crossing Amiibo cards will be returning to the states as well. They will be available at select retailers in November and will be priced at $5.99 a pack. The Tweet also includes a link to the Animal Crossing website, where fans can peruse the card list and assemble their ideal collection. Check it out below:

This restock is a pleasant surprise from Nintendo, and will surely please a lot of Animal Crossing fans. For all the high-quality games the company produces, it also has a pretty nasty habit of relying on artificial scarcity to drive up its sales. This is most evident in the recently released Super Mario 3D All-Stars, which is getting a limited sales window just to convince players to buy it. Seeing Nintendo willing to expand its stock to make products more available and foil scalpers is a definite step in the right direction.

Players love Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It exceeded its lifetime sales expectations within the first two months of its release and currently stands as the second best-selling Switch game of all time. Players have used the game to express some truly brilliant creative ideas and even briefly host a full-blown talk show. Nintendo's charming game has resonated with a lot of fans, and players have actually formed some real connections with their favorite villagers. Thanks to this new restock, players will have more opportunities to form these bonds with the characters they love best and live their dream life in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
