Umbrella Academy’s Aidan Gallagher Is The Perfect Robin In Batman Fan Art

Batman fan art imagines The Umbrella Academy’s Aidan Gallagher as the perfect Robin. Ever since his DC Comics introduction in 1940, the Boy Wonder has become synonymous with the caped crusader. However, Robin has been largely absent from the silver screen in recent years. Aside from Chris O’Donnell’s forgettable stint in the '90s or Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s John “Robin” Blake tease in The Dark Knight Rises, no live-action actor has donned the yellow cape on the big screen in some time.

Although the character has yet to appear in Warner Bros.’ DC Extended UniverseBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice gave fans a glimpse of Robin/Dick Grayson’s armor. This foreshadowing led to the belief Robin's death would play a role in Zack Snyder’s future films. Unfortunately, the lackluster performance of Justice League (among other things) resulted in a creative redirection. The DCEU is now rebooting at least one of its core superheroes and focusing more on solo projects. In particular, Matt Reeves’ upcoming film The Batman has fans holding out hope for a big screen adaptation of Robin. A popular fan-casting choice for the character has been Gallagher.

Digital artist Apexform shared the latest picture imagining Gallagher as Robin. This new piece of fan art sees him standing in the Batcave and sporting a suit similar to the one from DC Universe’s Titans. The rendition is appropriately dark, positioning the superhero sidekick in his mentor’s shadow. Take a look at the interpretation below:

Gallagher already plays a superhero in Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy. As Number Five, Gallagher embodies the intellect and wit of a 58-year-old assassin (in a teenage body). The success of the show’s recently released season 2 and the characteristic similarities between Five and Robin have made “Gallagher as Robin” a trending topic. On top of already having the character’s classic look, the 16-year-old actor is the perfect age to play the Boy Wonder in Reeves' perceived trilogy.

Reeve’s The Batman will feature Robert Pattinson as a younger Bruce Wayne/ Batman and a Rogue’s Gallery worth of villains. The film’s extensive cast and intriguing plot (making use of the Dark Knight’s iconic detective skills) should depict Gotham City’s underworld like never before. With so many moving parts inspired by its source material, there’s no reason Robin can’t cameo or appear in future installments like he does in the artwork above. If Reeves' universe does end up featuring The Umbrella Academy star, he would probably play Dick Grayson, the first Robin canonically. Though it's just a fan-cast for now, Gallagher would be an interesting addition to the DCEU.
