Star Wars: Obi-Wan Disney+ Show Might Begin Production Next Month

Production on Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor will reportedly begin production next month. As one of the brightest spots of the Star Wars prequels, many fans have been waiting for the announcement that McGregor was returning to the galaxy far, far away. After a solo movie fell apart, Lucasfilm finally confirmed at D23 2019 that McGregor would star in an untitled Disney+ series.

It's been almost a year since the Obi-Wan show was announced, but the series has encountered a few problems. There were rumors that the series was going to be scrapped altogether, which proved to be false. Instead, production was indefinitely delayed for a time, and the scope of the show was altered, with the scripts reportedly being trimmed down to just four episodes. Around the time that the drama with Obi-Wan happened, McGregor revealed that filming was pushed to early 2021 - and that was before coronavirus.

Now, a new report from Making Star Wars says that production on the Obi-Wan Disney+ show could begin in September. The site's source revealed that filming would take place next month at a location previously used for The Mandalorian referred to as the "train yard." Even though the source stated filming would take place in September, Making Star Wars cautions that it might be prep for production that will happen then, with filming taking place at a later date.

One of the previous plans for the Kenobi Disney+ show was for filming to begin in August, but that was before McGregor confirmed a delay until 2021. That adds quite a lot of uncertainty to this report, as it would mean at least part of the filming process of the series would begin much earlier on. If filming does take place in the next month for Obi-Wan's show, it's unknown if that means McGregor will be needed on set. It's possible the outdoor location could just be used to grab some shots now that might not be possible to get in the winter.

Since this report doesn't line up with what McGregor said in the past, it's best to take this news with a grain of salt - even if Making Star Wars is usually a reliable source of Star Wars intel. Fans will undoubtedly be pleased to see production on Kenobi take place next month if it does happen though. After all, it's been 15 years since McGregor last played Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, and the start of filming on the Disney+ show brings us one step closer to seeing his solo adventure.
