New Marijuana Business Competition Series Coming to Amazon Prime

It's about high time that a new reality series heads to Amazon Prime, and a marijuana business competition series hosted by industry tycoon Michael "BigMike" Straumietis' is filling the slot.

Michael Straumietis is the founder and CEO of Advanced Nutrients, a fertilizer and nutrient line specifically designed to increase yield and decrease growing time for marijuana crops. Since developing the now popular and well-respected brand over 20 years ago, Straumietis has become an institutional figure in the marijuana industry. The company brings in roughly $110 million in annual sales, and has been featured in Forbes, Rosebud, and other prominent or trade publications.

In The Next Marijuana Millionaire, a new series borrowing elements from The Apprentice and Survivor, Straumietis will recruit and judge 16 marijuana entrepreneurs to find the next industry leader. As reported by CNN, the contestant deemed most worthy at the end of the competition will earn a $1 million grand prize and an opportunity to go into business with Straumietis, the marjiana godfather himself.  Touted as the "first-ever cannabis business competition television series" in a press release, the show is slated to debut August 15 on Amazon Prime and other streaming platforms. The trailer shows contestants competing in a smattering of physical and stress-inducing challenges in which Straumietis aims to gauge their mettle and business savvy.

Straumietis' series is just the latest in an increasing realm of marijuana themed reality series. Comedy Central released The High Court with Doug Benson, a spoof on daytime courtroom programs, in 2017. Netflix's Cooking on High (2018) and Cooked with Cannabis (2020) have cornered the market on marijuana-infused cuisine programs. Last week, Discovery Channel announced their own THC-infused series, Growing Belushi, which follows actor Jim Belushi, his family, and employees as they tend and manage his Oregon marijuana farm.

As noted in the trailer, millions and millions of dollars are being poured into the marijuana industry, especially as more states relax their laws governing usage and sale of the substance. Millenials are finding the budding industry to be this generation's gold rush, where the right product and the right time could lead to fortune. Straumietis, a millionaire with all the trappings of America's elite, has already achieved such status, and will use The Next Marijuana Millionaire to bestow his decades of experience and success onto the next rising star.
