Spider-Verse spin-off writer Bek Smith will write the screenplay for Netflix's Reborn adaptation. The upcoming sci-fi fantasy film is based on the Image Comics series by Mark Millar and Greg Capullo. The project is being produced by Sandra Bullock through her production company Fortis Films and directed by The Lego Batman Movie director Chris McKay.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix's Reborn adaptation of the popular Millarworld comic series will be written by screenwriter Bek Smith. Smith is currently writing a Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse spin-off film and the screenplay for New Line's adaptation of the Vertigo comic 100 Bullets, while also developing World War Something for Hulu and FX Productions.
Netflix acquired Millarworld in 2017, with multiple projects based on the comic book creator's works in development. Along with Reborn, other upcoming adaptations include Jupiter's Legacy, American Jesus, Supercrooks, and Huck. Millar's works have previously been adapted for the screen in Wanted and Kick-Ass. Reborn was published in 2016 and was illustrated by Capullo, who, along with Millar, is also serving as executive producer on the film.
Reborn tells the story of an 80-year-old woman who dies in a hospital and is reborn as a 25-year-old version of herself in Adystria, a magical world of monsters and dragons where there is a battle between good and evil. She reunites with the loved ones from her past, except for her late husband. With the help of her father, she sets off on a quest to find her husband. Roy Lee and Miri Moon of Vertigo Entertainment are producing along with Bullock, while Samantha Nisenboim is co-producing.
