Some gamers are once again showing their true colors, review bombing Microsoft Flight Simulator for taking too long to download. Several games have been review bombed due to server issues or a community's negative reaction to story decisions, but rarely for anything as trivial as its install size.
Microsoft Flight Simulator is a whopping 91 GB in size, and rightfully so. Players have the capability of piloting virtual aircraft and can fly anywhere on the planet. The cockpit of each plane is highly detailed, and the game simulates every location on Earth, so it is reasonable to assume Microsoft Flight Simulator would be a very large title. So, for those who did not purchase the physical edition of the game, they are going to have a long wait time before hoping into a virtual cockpit.
On the Microsoft Flight Simulator store page on Steam, the game has over 4,000 reviews with the review score being "mixed." While the positive reviews have a variety of great things to say about the game, the negative reviews are dominated by one major complaint: the game's size. Users are very upset about the long download time and are complaining about how they are unable to refund the game on Steam because the download takes longer than two hours and takes place in an in-game launcher. While some negative reviews have real criticisms of the game, and "review bomb" is an imprecise term to say the least, the difference between a real review and a bomb can often be deciphered by how many hours the player has logged. Many review bombers have less than an hour logged on the game - not enough time to have even started playing by their own admission - and only complain about how they are unable to refund the game because of the massive download size.
Luckily for the game's developer, a massive number of players are legitimately enjoying Microsoft Flight Simulator and are leaving positive reviews. However, the review bombing does seem to be taking a toll on the game's score on Steam. Players can also read various reviews online, including Screen Rant's Microsoft Flight Simulator review, which are very positive and give a fair look at what the game has to offer.
While review bombing has happened for a number of reasons of varying legitimacy in the past, players are now using this method as a vengeful tactic to spite developers for silly reasons such as download times. Review bombing is becoming worryingly common and has the potential to cause developers actual harm, especially when used for outrageous reasons such as a game taking too long to download. While losing the ability to refund a game may be frustrating, players can still lobby Steam for a refund if they provide a legitimate reason for why they deserve one, making the review bombing of Microsoft Flight Simulator even more specious.
