Dwayne Johnson teases Black Adam vs Superman during the former's DC FanDome panel. For over ten years now, Johnson has been developing a Black Adam film for the DCEU. While things took a long time to get moving, hope arrived in the form of Shazam last year, which teased Black Adam's origin story. Now, after all this waiting, Black Adam is finally making progress and is currently scheduled for release in December 2021.
While Black Adam hasn't started filming yet and therefore has no footage to show, Johnson came to DC FanDome with plenty of exciting teases. Noah Centineo (Atom Smasher) was also on hand to hype up this long-awaited DCEU film. From some excellent concept art showing Black Adam's origin to the full roster of the film's Justice Society, there was enough to get fans excited. However, Johnson also took the time to hint at what the future could hold for Black Adam, particularly when it comes to additional DCEU heroes.
Johnson was asked by a fan which DC character he would like to take on an adventure, and after first mentioning Wonder Woman, he set his sights on Superman. In doing so, he seemed to tease a brewing battle between the two DC titans. "Because look, at the end of the day, you never know, Black Adam and Superman could become friends," Johnson said. "Or... they won't. Who knows. Maybe we'll see."
Johnson has long been interested in Black Adam and Superman coming face to face, and it's safe to say fans feel the same. As Johnson mentioned at the DC FanDome panel, the two have similar powers and skills, so they would be evenly matched. The DCEU's Superman, Henry Cavill, is reportedly returning for a few more films in a cameo/supporting capacity, but he has yet to be included in Black Adam. Of course, now that production on Black Adam has been pushed to 2021, there could be adjustments in order to bring him in.
At the very least, Johnson is clearly hopeful about a future Black Adam vs. Superman match-up. It remains to be seen if it will ever actually happen, but DC fans have likely learned to never say never, as this year alone has proven anything could happen (the Snyder Cut, Ben Affleck's Batman return, etc.). Superman tease aside, though, Johnson and director Jaume Collet-Serra have some exciting things up their sleeves for Black Adam, and fans only got the first taste of it at DC FanDome. Perhaps once the movie finally arrives next year, fans will get a better idea of whether Black Adam will ever meet (and clash with) Superman.
