A dispute between 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? stars Paul Staehle and Karine Martin has escalated in recent days. Karine reportedly filed a protection order against Paul following his behavior towards her. This leads fans to question, is Karine running away from her husband?
The couple made headlines when Paul claimed he was very concerned because Karine and their son, Pierre, were missing. Paul said he was “scared” and “really upset” after he found Karine and their son had left their home and he wasn’t sure of their whereabouts. Paul also revealed Karine filed a restraining order against him. A neighbor reportedly called Paul and said Karine had taken Pierre and jumped into an unknown man’s car while Paul was at the hospital. Karine cleared up the situation on Instagram soon after. She explained the police had been called and she was “rescued from an environment that was no longer healthy.”
The restraining order paperwork Paul shared contained many disturbing accusations. Paul allegedly raped Karine and prevented her from taking birth control. The documents also said Paul threatened to take their son away if Karine ever tried to leave him. In addition, Paul was allegedly “armed and dangerous.” Considering Paul’s criminal history, these domestic abuse allegations aren’t unexpected. In 2014 Paul’s ex-girlfriend filed a restraining order against him. Paul broke this restraining order, which landed him in prison. Paul was convicted of second-degree arson and served probation in the same year.
If the allegations are true, the situation is highly dangerous for Karine and their child. Paul also revealed Karine found a divorce lawyer in Brazil and is looking to end their marriage. This may have escalated his anger and actions toward Karine to the point where he could physically inflict violence against her. It’s unclear where Karine is staying right now and she likely wants to keep it that way. There’s also the potential Paul could take their child in retaliation as he’s threatened in the past according to the restraining order. Moving to the United States has taken a real toll on their relationship and it's likely Karine reached a breaking point. When Paul realized this, he likely lashed out at Karine. He has shown many times on 90 Day Fiancé how little control he has over his emotions.
All things considered, it’s almost a given Karine has run away from Paul with their son Pierre and has no intention of returning to her husband any time soon. Paul teased a trip to Brazil on Instagram, so it’s possible he may be traveling to the country to confront Karine’s family. Karine may already be there with their son finalizing the divorce. If Paul is as unhinged as the restraining order implies, that may be the only situation where he can be trusted to speak to Karine. If anything, Karine’s retired police officer father will hopefully keep Paul in line.
