NBCUniversal's newly debuted streaming service, Peacock, has picked up Vanderpump Rules' spinoff, Vanderpump Dogs. Lisa Vanderpump, the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star and Vanderpump Rules executive producer, has endured a streak of bad luck since the pandemic started. Both Stassie Schroeder and Kristin Doute, two of Vanderpump Rules' leading stars and original cast members, were fired from the program after their prejudicial behavior against former co-star Faith Stowers was revealed.
Offscreen, Lisa shut down her restaurant, Villa Blanca, after the eatery lost a sexual discrimination case against a waitress who alleged the working environment was hostile. She also recently stepped into hot water after reigniting a dispute with Sarah Paulson on Watch What Happens Live!, alleging that the actress displayed nasty behavior. Since bad news comes in threes, the Bravo star was bound for some positive developments to hit the presses.
According to E!, Peacock announced Vanderpump Dogs, a reality show based on Vanderpump's work at the dog rescue center, in a spot during a commercial break from NBC's 30 Rock's virtual reunion special. Details regarding the show's focus and cast will be released by Peacock at a later date. Lisa has been in development talks with Peacock for months but told her Twitter fans that she was unaware the series would be announced July 16 via commercial. Now having landed a deal with Peacock, Lisa is one of the few housewives to expand their reality career and franchises past Bravo borders.
While little is known about the new show, it will revolve around The Vanderpump Dog Rescue Center, a canine shelter founded by Lisa and her husband, Ken Todd. Founded as one of many initiatives of The Vanderpump Dog Foundation, the center's mission to rescue mistreated dogs around the world. The center has been featured several times in her Bravo programs, even nabbing its own story line in her final season of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Its glamorous, pink and pristine exterior is home to both a shelter and retail center.
Lisa started her mission against canine cruelty after learning about the exploitation dogs endure in China as part of the Yulin dog meat festival. Located in the heart of West Hollywood, the center works on all fronts: lobbying for animal rights legislation, rehabilitating and re-homing orphaned dogs, and developing international campaigns to end the very meat festival that spurred this crusade and others like it.
