When a post-apocalyptic future sends 100 "criminal" teenagers to Earth to see if the planet can be survived in the aptly titled The 100, Raven Reyes isn't initially one of them. It doesn't take long, however, for her character to become integral to the series.
Raven is one of only a handful of characters to make it from the beginning of the story to the final season of the series. She's done that thanks to her intellect, her ability to work with people she hates, and her belief that humanity deserves another chance to make things right. The audience has loved her since her debut, but there might still be things they don't know about her.
10 Is Raven A Member Of The 100
Raven isn't on the dropship that sends the Ark's delinquents to Earth. She is, however, still a member of the first 100 people to make it to Earth. How is that possible?
When the teens break into the Earth's atmosphere, two of the kids on the ship decide to model Finn Collins' behavior and unbuckle their restraints. They end up dead on impact. That means there are only 98 people that survive to Earth. Bellamy Blake, onboard the ship disguised as a guard, makes 99. When Raven takes her own craft to Earth a few episodes later, she technically makes up the last member of The 100.
9 Was Raven Supposed To Be In The Pilot
Though Raven doesn't debut in the pilot of the series, she was going to. Initially, according to Lindsey Morgan's chat with The Cheat Sheet, Raven also wasn't Finn's girlfriend.
The pilot episode script featured scenes with Finn's mother - who was the original Raven character. When her scenes were cut from the pilot script, the character was retooled and Morgan was cast to play the part. It would have been a very different storyline if Finn's mother had come to Earth instead.
8 How Many Episodes Was She Supposed To Be In
Lindsey Morgan eventually became a series regular, making Raven officially part of the main cast, but she wasn't always slated as one.
In the same Cheat Sheet interview, Morgan reveals that her original contract for the series was for five episodes. She was brought onto the series knowing that Raven would die at the end of those five episodes, but it didn't happen. Producers continued to bring her back - contracted for a few episodes at a time.
7 Is Raven in The Books
When The 100 was developed for the CW, the first novel by Kass Morgan hadn't yet been published, though the story had been optioned for television. As a result, many characters that appear in the novels don't appear in the television series, and vice versa.
Raven is not in the novels. She, along with Monty, Murphy, and more fan favorites was not part of the story told on the page. Fans who are only familiar with the television series might find that impossible, but the events of the novel and the series drastically diverge after the first book.
6 Why Was Her Fate Left Hanging In Season One's Finale
Longtime fans, or those who discovered the series on Netflix, will remember that Raven is left in dire circumstances at the end of the first season. Thanks to a bullet, fans don't know if she'll live or die.
According to Morgan, that's when the decision was made as to whether or not Raven would become a series regular. If Morgan had said she didn't want to be a regular on the series, Raven's fate would have been death. Since Morgan agreed to become a series regular, Raven survived.
5 What Is Unique About Raven's Actress Behind The Scenes
Many of the actors appearing on The 100 have had opportunities to learn more about the business of the show - outside of acting. Lindsey Morgan is one of a handful of actors who had the chance to direct the series in addition to starring in it.
Morgan joins Bob Morley and Henry Ian Cusick as cast members who directed an episode. Morgan told Entertainment Weekly she became intrigued by the possibility when Cusick directed an episode in the fourth season. She also shadowed several of the female directors to prepare for doing the job herself in the seventh.
4 Has Raven Taken Any Lives
A big sticking point on The 100 is that characters are often caught in life or death situations where they have to make impossible choices. Most of the decisions that cause the largest amount of bloodshed belong to Clarke Griffin and Bellamy.
While Clarke is, arguably, responsible for the most deaths in the series - over 900 - and Raven often looks down on the decisions she's made, Raven is also responsible for a lot of deaths. In fact, she causes some of the same deaths as Clarke. As a result of a bridge explosion, using the dropship as a bomb, deleting code, and outright shooting enemies, Raven is responsible for over 300 of the deaths in the series.
3 What Is Different About Raven's Experience With ALIE
When ALIE becomes a part of the series, she invades peoples' minds through her chips. While everyone gives in to ALIE's approach to their lives immediately, Raven is different.
Raven is one of the few who actually resists ALIE's presence. She also, however, becomes the mind ALIE seems to bond with most. While other characters see ALIE suddenly expelled from their minds, Raven has a bit of ALIE left behind. Her mind is "upgraded" as she's able to read ALIE's computer code without ever having coding experience.
2 What Do Raven And Murphy Have In Common
Raven and Murphy begin the series with no love lost between them. At the end of the first season, Murphy even shoots Raven; he's the one responsible for the nerve damage to her leg. As the show progresses, however, enemies often become friends. Raven and Murphy might make caustic remarks toward one another, but they definitely fall into that category.
The two actually share a similar background. Both of them grow up with mothers who develop a drinking problem. In Raven's case, that means her mother doesn't pay attention to her. In Murphy's case, that means his mother blames him for his father's death. Both lose their mothers to their respective alcoholism.

The entire reason The 100 are sent to Earth in the pilot is that the leaders of the Ark need to know if Earth is survivable. The space station is failing. It's likely that Raven Reyes is part of the reason the kids are sent to Earth in the first place.
Raven goes on an illegal spacewalk prior to the events of the show, and Finn takes the blame for her, ending up in a cell in her place. Raven's spacewalk uses three months' worth of the Ark's air supply. With such a large amount used, the leaders have to jump into action to find viable alternatives to the home they know.
