Fatal Affair: Is David Really Dead At The End? | Screen Rant

Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Fatal Affair.

The ending of Fatal Affair shows the main villain, David, falling from a cliff, but does he actually die? Like so many thrillers, Peter Sullivan's Netflix film provides faux clarity for the protagonists, but leaves viewers with teases to suggest that they could still be in danger.

Fatal Affair is set in San Francisco, and sees a married lawyer called Ellie Warren (Nia Long) give in to romantic feelings for an old friend David (Omar Epps). and then trying to hide the truth from her husband Marcus (Stephen Bishop) and daughter Brittany (Aubrey Cleland). Fatal Affair's big twist is that David has major anger management issues, and uses Ellie's friend Courtney (Maya Stojan) to infiltrate the Warren home. David stalks his victim from afar via hacking, but also prowls around her home and makes threatening statements.

David fakes his death in Fatal Affair's wild final act, and terrorizes Ellie by suggesting that he's going to kill her husband and daughter. However, their roles are reversed as Ellie then becomes the stalker and David becomes the prey. In fact, Ellie and Marcus team up against their tormentor, who ultimately takes a knife to the gut. Fatal Affair's main storyline ends with David falling from a cliff, presumably to his death. But did David actually die at the end of Fatal Affair? There is evidence to support the theory that he survived the fall.

Logic suggests that David would've died after crashing into rocks or solid ground, but the movie deliberately leaves things uncertain about his fate. The cliff opens out onto the ocean, which means that he could have fallen either onto hard ground or into the water. David deliberately letting go of Ellie's hands could mean that he's going willingly to his death, or it could mean that he believes he will survive the fall and have an opportunity to return and torment her another day.

Fatal Affair's final scene picks up two months after David's fall. Brittany is leaving for college and her parents plan to move house, based on a "For Sale" sign at their home. The family has seemingly moved on, and the movie ends on what seems like a happy note. However, the fact that David's body is never shown and we never see him land after his fall - not to mention the fact that he's already faked his death once before - leaves the possibility that the threat may not be gone. Perhaps he could even return in Fatal Affair 2.
