Hough was snapped by paparazzi blowing off a little steam at a Los Angeles-area gym on Wednesday. She appeared to be dancing around a female companion in a series of humorous Instagram posts. The fun in the pictures is a far cry from the emotional back and forth that plagued Hough's marriage to her retired hockey player hubby. Rumors that the couple's marriage was in trouble first began to surface back in 2019 when she reportedly told her husband that she was "not straight." From there, Laich topped her admission with one of his own for the impending New Year, where he noted that in 2020 he wanted to explore, "More about intimacy and my sexuality." Both disclosures came around the time when Hough was ousted from her judging gig at America's Got Talent. The fallout from that controversy may have added stress to the union. In early 2020, reports emerged that the couple was struggling. By April, Hough was photographed with actor Ben Barnes, while Laich posted solo Instagram shots of himself and his dog in Idaho. Official news of their separation came on May 29, in the middle of the global COVID-19 pandemic. During their two months apart, sources say the couple hasn't had much contact.
According to Daily Mail, a source close to the couple believes Laich has been pining away after his estranged wife. "Her friends and family love him, and everyone is pulling for him," the unnamed insider explained. "He's a great guy, and they would love to see Julianne give things another chance." Several media outlets have reported that Laich doesn't want to divorce his wife, but feels that "her actions" have often been too much for the relationship. In 2019, he spoke out about their attempts to start a family via IVF treatments. However, Hough quickly refuted those rumors this year when she went on the record and expressed that she had no desire to become a parent anytime soon. In January, Hough made headlines when she underwent energy healing with Dr. John Amaral. The video of her writhing and gyrating while receiving treatment could have also made Laich uncomfortable. Regardless, he has maintained close ties to the Hough family, working out with his brother-in-law and World of Dance judge Derek Hough during his birthday weekend in June.
