All Prince Songs Are Now Available For TikTok Users, Including These Hits

TikTok creators can now finally use the music of the High Priest of Pop, Prince. Thanks to a deal with the Prince estate, TikTok can provide its users with access to the entire discography. Which means TikTok creators can now look forward to singing When Doves Cry duets with friends, Raspberry Beret challenges and U Got The Look Makeovers coming to their TikTok feeds.

TikTok has always been a social media platform that is heavily reliant on its sound library with many of the videos created with an audio track. This is one of the reasons why TikTok has become known as a platform populated with dance videos. While TikTok does feature an expansive music catalog already, Prince was one of a few legendary artists that had not been available. Led Zeppelin, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones are among the remaining holes within TikTok’s sound library.

As well as adding the music of Prince, TikTok and the Prince estate have added a new and official Prince account to the platform. TikTok says this account will feature archival footage of Prince performances, interviews, and video excerpts. Prince was known as an artist that rarely gave interviews and tended to let the music speak for itself. Therefore, a new TikTok account that will give fans a glimpse at behind the scenes of The Purple One’s life is likely to be exciting for fans. TikTok says the account will also focus on Prince’s dedication to activism and societal equality. In addition to this new account, TikTok says it will be rolling out new Prince-related programming over the next week, starting on Monday, June 29th at 12 p.m. (Pacific) with a live-stream tour of Prince’s home and studio, Paisley Park. TikTok says the tour, featured as an episode of TikTok’s Sound-Off series, will emphasize Prince’s lifestyle and creative process. TikTok has not announced what the rest of the Prince content will be, but has said everything will be in partnership with the Prince estate.

Thanks to the variety of styles and genres, Prince's music is ripe with potential for new TikTok challenges and videos to emerge. Whether new or a fan of the music, below are a few suggestions of song titles that are worth checking out and could make for good new challenges on the platform.

Prince's Kiss is such an iconic song and the titular line in the chorus, along with the dramatic pause, feels like the perfect clip for a challenge. Imagine a series of videos of people walking up to their significant others, parents, pets, or even just random objects and kissing them. It is an easy challenge that allows users to have fun with it.

Makeover swipe challenges are all the rage on TikTok. Users start the video looking normal enough before then swiping the screen and showing off a far more glamorous version of themselves. Prince's U Got The Look could be the perfect soundtrack for anyone considering making one of these videos in the future.

High schoolers are always looking for new ways to ask their crush to the prom and could there be a more Gen Z way than through a TikTok video? For example, the person asking could start the video dancing to this song, then stop the music, and sincerely express their interest in escorting the other to prom. Better yet, for the softly spoken, the question becomes more of a passive request, due to the phrasing of the lyrics.

Some of Prince's music is even more poignant now compared to when it came out and Baltimore is one such song. Released in 2015, following the death of Freddie Gray and the Baltimore riots, the song could serve as a way for TikTok users to show solidarity in this current moment and climate. With lines like "Peace is more than the absence of war" and "If there ain't no justice then there ain't no peace," this song encapsulates the sentiments many are likely feeling during the current protests across the country.

TikTok says it is excited to introduce Prince’s music to a younger generation. As a platform that attracts a younger demographic in general, it is highly likely that this may be the first time many TikTok users have heard a Prince song. Regardless, Prince’s cultural impact is unquestionable and the artist has been referenced as an inspiration for countless modern musicians. While this deal has probably been in the works for some time now, it does feel like the perfect time to re-introduce Prince to the world, and for some, introduced for the first time. Prince’s career covers fun dance music that is perfect for TikTok, but it also includes powerful music that still today represents the experience felt by many in America.
