Agents of SHIELD: Ming-Na Wen Thinks Fans Will Love The Series Finale

Agents of SHIELD star Ming-Na Wen believes fans will love the series finale. When Agents of SHIELD first premiered on ABC in 2013, it stirred up a whole lot of excitement purely because it was the first television show set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show's biggest connection to the broader universe was, of course, its main character Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), but the first season contained a few other tie-ins. However, as Agents of SHIELD went on, it grew apart from the MCU, but was still notable because it was the very first Marvel TV show. Now, it's also the last, as all other Marvel television shows have been canceled in recent years because of Marvel Studios shifting its attention to Disney+.

Agents of SHIELD season 7 will be its last, and so far it's already contained several throwbacks to previous episodes. This season features an LMD version of Coulson tagging along with the rest of the SHIELD team as they travel through various points in history. Their goal is to stop the alien Chronicoms from erasing SHIELD and taking over the earth. Additionally, this season of Agents of SHIELD is said to feature more connections to the MCU while also wrapping up each character's arc.

Wen, who has played Melinda May in every season of Agents of SHIELD, recently spoke to Collider about the show's final season. Of course, she was asked if she thinks fans will be satisfied with how Agents of SHIELD comes to an end. Wen didn't get into any specifics, but she confirmed that she does think fans will be pleased with the finale. "The way the storylines end, I think the fans will love it because they end, but they don’t really end," Wen explained. "I think it will be very satisfying."

Wen's comments echo those of her co-star Chloe Bennet, who promised Agents of SHIELD's finale won't be like Game of Thrones' (a finale which deeply polarized fans). Additionally, Wen's tease that the characters' stories end, but not really, almost seems to suggest there could be more adventures in the future. While nothing might be in development right now (and Wen might not have any involvement), it wouldn't be surprising if Marvel aimed to keep the door open for any SHIELD characters to return in a future project.

Series finales are always nerve-wracking, as they can either preserve or destroy (see again, Game of Thrones) a show's legacy in a single episode. It's impossible to please everyone, but it is comforting to  hear so many cast members speak highly of the finale. Fans already got a glimpse of a potential Agents of SHIELD series finale back in season 5, and this might give them an indication of how this one will go. There are still several episodes left in the show, so for now, fans can just sit back and enjoy the ride.
