The 100 Season 7 Reveals What Happened To Sheidheda | Screen Rant

Warning: SPOILERS for The 100 season 7 premiere.

After escaping at the end of The 100 season 6, the season 7 premiere reveals that Sheidheda made it into Russell Prime’s body and is now out in the world. Sheidheda, or the Dark Commander, was a secondary antagonist in season 6, corrupting Madi throughout the season. While Sheidheda’s influence on Madi was removed by destroying the Flame in The 100 season 6 finale, it was clear his role wouldn’t end there.

The 100 season 6 finale also didn’t include the death of Russell Prime, the leader of Sanctum. While the rest of the Primes were killed in that episode, Russell alone managed to survive, being taken prisoner instead. Rather than these being two separate storylines, they become one in the season 7 premiere, which managed to set the stage for the rest of the final season.

The 100 season 7 premiere, “From the Ashes”, crashes these two storylines together with the unexpected twist of Sheidheda taking over Russell Prime’s body. After Clarke beats Russell unconscious for his role in the death of Abby, Clarke’s mother, Sheidheda shows himself in Russell’s mind, in the same room that he held Madi in. When he escaped at the end of season 6, Sheidheda used the computer on Eligius IV to make his way into Russell Prime’s Mind Drive. In Russell’s mind, Sheidheda is there with Russell’s original body tied up, before slitting Russell’s throat. This kills off Russell Prime for good, leaving only Sheidheda alive in that body.

In a season with a lot of loose threads at the start, this helps consolidate the storytelling. The last season ended with three major unresolved issues: Sheidheda, Russell Prime, and the Anomaly. The 100 season 7 adds in trying to maintain the fragile peace in Sanctum, which adds up to a lot of concurrent plot threads. By combining two of the pieces, it frees up room for the other storylines to play out before inevitably all coming together into the climax of the series.

Bridging Sheidheda and Russell’s storylines is unexpected but makes perfect sense in retrospect. The two of them made a very fragile alliance in the season 6 finale before Madi wrested control of her body back. Russell still has symbolic power in Sanctum, even if the divinity of the Primes has mostly been discredited among the people. There’s also an obvious technological reason for their connection: the Mind Drive technology is based on the same technology as the Flame where Sheidheda had lived before. It’s an obvious place for him to go since the technology works and Sheidheda seeks power more than anything else. In hindsight, there’s nowhere else he could've gone.

By taking control of Russell's body, though, Sheidheda now has the ability to not only take control of the people of Sanctum but Wonkru as well. He was once Commander, and he could certainly find a way to do that again, especially since Madi is no longer the Commander. Sooner or later, Wonkru will look for someone to lead them - and Sheidheda will be there.
