Kaitlyn Bristowe Wrote Her New Song 'If I'm Being Honest' During Shawn Booth Breakup

The Bachelorette’s Kaitlyn Bristowe debuted a new single last week and rumor has it the lyrics may have something to do with her ex fiancĂ©, Shawn Booth. It is finally confirmed that Kaitlyn's new song was written during the time of her breakup.

Kaitlyn Bristowe who appeared on Chris Soules season of the Bachelor and then later starred as the Bachelorette herself can now add budding musician to her running list of credentials. Since her stint on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, the reality star has grown her celebrity status by dabbling in several different franchises, such as her popular ‘Off the Vine’ podcast, trendy ‘DEW’ Scrunchie line, and fast-selling wine label, ‘Spade & Sparrows.’ She also had quite the fitness game when she was engaged to, (now ex) Shawn Booth, winner of her season of Bachelorette. When they were together, the couple used to host monthly CitySTRONG workouts across the country. But since their split in 2018, it seems like Bristowe’s interests are in song writing versus pumping iron. Her new single, "If I'm Being Honest" hit Apple Music last Thursday and is crushing the Billboard music charts. The catchy heartfelt tune now ranks #39 on the Emerging Artists Chart and has fans wondering what inspired her to write music. The lyrics are a bit eyebrow raising when it comes to her love life, since she now claims she’s in a happy and committed relationship with another contestant in “the Bachelor fam,” Jason Tartick. So, all signs are pointing to Booth being the muse for this self-reflecting bop.

Following the release of her country-pop single "If I'm Being Honest," Bristowe opened up to ET on what inspired her deeply personal track. She tells the outlet that she actually wrote the song right before she broke up with Booth as a way to cope with her feelings. She explained, "Nobody had known that Shawn and I had broken up yet and it was kinda right before that in that time. ... I recorded the song the day that the news came out of our breakup and so it was kind of important for me to show my own resilience to myself because all I wanted to do was lay in bed and cry that day." Adding that even though the lyrics were inspired by their break up, that the song isn’t really relevant to that situation anymore. The song can be heard in the video below:

She further explains that she didn’t think she would ever release the track, but during these uncertain times, due to the coronavirus pandemic, she thought the lyrics had grown a new meaning to them. She said, "I was listening to the lyrics and I'm like, wow, this actually applies to so many people and how we're all feeling right now, so I was like, why not release it?" And, based off of Billboard’s charts, we think fans are so happy that the The Bachelorette alum decided to make her big break in the music realm.

As for Booth’s take on the song, he has yet to make any public statements regarding the lyrics. Here’s hoping that he too has moved on and is putting the past behind him.
