Monica Geller's middle name on Friends remains as one of the lingering mysteries stemming from the popular NBC sitcom. The character was played by Courteney Cox for all 10 seasons, which spanned from 1994 to 2004. Monica was one of the core characters on Friends alongside her brother, Ross Geller, her future husband, Chandler Bing, and close friends, Rachel Green, Phoebe Buffay, and Joey Tribbiani. Ross' middle name was never said in the show, but the production details proclaimed it to be "Eustace." Based on Ross' middle name and the detail that it started with "E," there are a few options that could be plausible.
There were numerous characters on Friends with names that started with an "E." If the writers ever picked a middle name for Monica, they probably wouldn't have used it as the first name of another character. By process of elimination, her middle name wouldn't have been Emma (Monica's niece) or Erica (the name of her daughter). It also probably wouldn't have been Emily or Elizabeth (Ross' exes), though the latter is a very common name and some fans predicted it to be Monica's middle name in the past.
Using a family name would be possible but there were no female Gellers on the family tree with "E" names. Seeing as Ross' middle name was Eustace derived from Greek origin, Monica's parents could have gone with something similar for their younger child. Eunice is also from a Greek origin and it's similar enough to Eustace to catch the eyes of Jack and Judy Geller. Seeing as the Geller family is half-Jewish, Esther could be a candidate chosen by Jack. For now, any name would be a guess, since it continues to be a lingering mystery from the series. Or, one could take a page out of Phoebe's playbook and call her "Monica Felula Geller." Perhaps Phoebe wasn't making up a middle name and "Felula" began with a silent "E." Maybe the Friends reunion special will unearth a few new tidbits of trivia, including the mystery of Monica's full name.
